This is the view of the endless flats I get to ride when I’m in Sacramento.
I most recently did this ride: http://www.strava.com/activities/107318134 : which consisted of long flats along the waterway and no real inclines. It’s really difficult to stay motivated on rides such as this… just look at the elevation profile.
What makes it difficult is the fact that I’m so spoiled by the bay area and the nice hilly terrain it has to offer. However, I can get a similar or the same workout here on the flats… it’s just mentally so boring. See below for two 20mi rides with similar power outputs, but the difference in speed and scenery.
This is a pretty good comparison of what the flat route (2nd image) has to offer vs the usual route I take. Both images are links to the actual ride on Strava. On average, the power output for both rides were the same, but the flat one was a grueling (mental) ride.
